Rehenah found a pattern for an easy to make top. I was impressed with the finished product. What worked out well is that the same top can be custom made for each dancer while keeping the outfits uniform. Start with a thick padded bra that fits well and that you would be comfortable wearing on stage. Take a square knitted scarf and fold it in half so that it forms a triangle. Sew the folded scarf to the bra so that the scarf goes across the cups of the bra with one corner of the scarf covering the belly. The two long ends of the scarf tie in the back. The bra straps can then be decorated as seen fit. My instructions make it sound more confusing than it is. I don’t have a good photo of the finished top, but you can see a side view of it in this photo.

Hi thanks for posting that. It just shows what can be achieved with a little thought - it looks really good. No you didn't make the instructions look too complicated!!
They say that 'necessity is the mother of invention'!! I've heard that belly dance kit isn't so easy to come by in Kansas - I hope some of the links on here prove useful but, by the look of the photos we've seen so far, you're all doing fine using your own skills and imagination!!
