Andrés Jimenéz is a 20 year old dancer with Taller de Compás de Almanjáyar. He was born in a Gitano 'barrio' and since the age of 11 has been working to provide for his family. Since the age of 14 he has been the sole breadwinner as his father (now 86) has been unwell for some time.
This young man is a talented dancer who received standing ovations for his performances on Taller de Compás' tour of North America and has, since then, been studying at the prestigious Mario Maya school in Granada, Spain. He has two months to go and, so far, his 300 Euros per month tuition fees, clothes, shoes, food, transport etc... as well as the upkeep of his family have been funded by a 40% state grant (for tuition), his 40 Euros a week job and generous donations from all over the world.
While accompanying a friend to an audition for the theatrical remake of 'Los Tarantos', Andrés was asked to participate and has been shortlisted for the 'Romeo' part.
If anyone can help with a donation towards Andrés' final couple of months at the school - no matter how small an amount - please can you personal message me or e-mail me at Hetaira0@aol.com and I can give you details of how to send donations by Paypal (worldwide) or how to put the money straight into the funding account (I think that might be UK only).
I'd like to think that we could raise 100 Euros (that's £66 or $120) between us quite quickly and, obviously the more the better!!
Thanks for reading
Andrés' sponsorship is being supervised by Kate Edbrooke of 'Anda La Musica' in Granada, Spain.
